INTRODUCTION −

The interactive clickable IPA chart is a dynamic and user-friendly tool designed to help users learn and understand the sounds of human speech as represented by IPA symbols. It displays the full set of IPA symbols and allows users to hear the corresponding sounds. The description function (activated by the DESCRIPTION button) allows users to click on a symbol and access detailed information, including the phonetic description, IPA name, IPA number, Unicode name, range, and hex value. Additionally, users can choose from up to four audio clips produced by J. Esling, J. House, P. Ladefoged, and J. Wells to hear the sound of the selected symbol. The transcription function (activated by the TRANSCRIPTION button) enables users to insert symbols directly into a transcription field by clicking on them. The multilingual edition, activated by the LANGUAGE button, allows users to select and view the IPA chart with phonetic terms translated into one of over 30 available languages. The PDF button provides a downloadable PDF of the selected chart for offline use.
